Political observers increasingly blame the US President George W. Bush for making the world more insecure as the United States is preparing to mark the seventh anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the country.

Seven years after the tragic event, as Lee Hamilton-- the Vice Chairmen of the bipartisan 9/11 fact-finding Commission-- says the US is even more insecure. He blames the Bush Administration's wrong policies for the rise in insecurity in the country.

The critics of the White House are not limited to prominent figures like Hamilton. The House Commissions on Foreign Affairs and Homeland Security has been disappointed at the Administration's failure in making progress in providing the US citizens the security “they expect and deserve.”

Unilateralism seems to dominate the policy of the Bush Administration both in the home and international fronts and even the recommendations by the 9/11 Commission to improve homeland security has fallen on deaf ears.

The 9/11 tragedy happened 9 months after Bush took office as president, yet the shadow of the event still lingers on the country's political and security affairs even in the twilight months of the President's term.

Bush launched his “War on Terror” in the aftermath of the terrorist attacks but after seven years, the US is back to square one; political analysts unanimously believe Dubya's quixotic “Crusade” has been a failure. Yes, there has been no more 9/11 like terror attacks inside the United States in the past seven years, but today, the world is a more dangerous place compared to 2001.

One does not need to be a genius to realize that the phenomenon of terrorism has been spreading geographically and claiming more and more victims across the world.

In Iraq alone, some 4,000 US troops have been killed and thousands wounded to take revenge for the murder of almost 3,000 people in the September 11 attacks. The Bush Administration's ambitious war on terror has swallowed more than $800 billion of taxpayers' money, yet the United States is not more secure.

The White House's wrong policies have also destabilized the world. The Bush Administration's unilateralism and militaristic policies have pushed the world to the brink of another Cold War and arms race.

The US's role in the Caucasus region that led to the outbreak of the South Ossetia war has dashed hopes of any progress in global disarmament confidence-building measures.

The US statesmen have broken every rule in the book and the country's infringement of international regulations has damaged the nation's reputation.

The United States which claims to be one of the staunch supporters of human rights, now permits spying on its own citizens under the guise of war on terror. It looks like the conspiracy theory world depicted in Robert Ludlum's novels.

Yes, the state should protect the privacy of its citizens but not when it comes to illegal wiretappings by the Bush Administration. Bush stands by the people of the countries whose governments “violate human rights” but US allies are the exceptions to the rule.

The bipartisan 9/11 Commission was right. The White House has put not only the United States, but also the entire world at risk.
